Students take stand against bullies

Four girls from Louisburg Middle School presented an anti-bullying video at Monday evening’s board of education meeting. We should applaud these students for not only taking the time to put the video together, but also taking a stand with their peers to stop bullying in schools.

Middle school is a tough enough time as it is, with students figuring out who they really are, who they like, dealing with hormones, not to mention classwork, the ever-evolving relationship with their parents and other outside pressures.

Students will always be bullied. Even some adults are bullied by other adults. What’s important to note, however, is that Louisburg students are taking a stand against it, and they’re doing it together. That’s something to be commended. Even if it isn’t a very large issue within Louisburg’s schools, the students did acknowledge at the meeting that it is still an issue, whether they see it or not. What’s also important is that although they may not see it themselves, they are leading by example, letting peers know that it’s OK for them to stand up against bullying, and perhaps even stand with them against it.
