Sacha Baron Cohen has made a hell of a career out of being an instigator. Not only has he made us laugh and cringe with the behavior of his outlandish characters, but he has also managed to make interesting statements on social norms. Cohen is no fool. The Cambridge graduate comes from a highly intellectual family and flaunts his intelligence through his character’s stupidity.
However, recently Cohen has moved away from making strangers feel uncomfortable and politicians look stupid and started pursuing a more traditional Hollywood path. He showcased his singing ability in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd” and recently appeared in Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed “Hugo.”
Now it seems Cohen has returned to his comfort zone, parodying a dictator seemingly based off Muammar Gaddafi. The star-studded cast includes Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly and Anna Faris. The source material is boundless considering the clothes, personality and batshit craziness of Gaddafi and other dictators. While the trailer seems a little tame hopefully Cohen can replicate the “Borat” in a traditional studio film.
